Positive Interventions to Increase Job Satisfaction

Writer: Hector KostakisHector Kostakis

Creating positive relationships within an organization can lead to a significant increase in job satisfaction and creativity (Sacchetti & Tortia, 2013). These relationships are built on autonomy , the highlighting of strengths , as well as a climate of trust, participation and empathetic leadership (Wolff et al., 2002).

Meaning as a Key Factor of Well-being

Meaning at work is one of the key axes around which positive interventions can be structured. Together with positive relationships, they are key building blocks of the PERMA model , which focuses on the well-being of the individual and the group. PERMA promotes the development of: ✅ Self-determination ✅ Resilience ✅ Vitality ✅ Optimism ✅ Potential that exists in every person (Seligman, 2011).

What are Positive Interventions?

Positive interventions are actions that aim to enhance positive emotions and relationships in the workplace. They are designed to be perceived as positive in terms of their goal, methodology, and outcome (Seligman, 2002).

How Do Positive Interventions Help?

📌 Balancing psychological needs: Employees need self-actualization and the feeling that their work has an impact. 📌 Highlighting potential: Interventions will help highlight and develop the individual abilities of each employee. 📌 Autonomy and motivation: Employees are encouraged to take initiatives and make decisions in an environment with open communication. 📌 Recognition and reward: Employees who see their contribution recognized become more committed and creative.

Connection with Self-Determination Theory

According to the Self-Determination Theory (Ryan & Deci, 2000), job satisfaction depends on three main factors: 1️⃣ Autonomy: The feeling that one has control over one's decisions. 2️⃣ Connection: The existence of healthy relationships within the organization. 3️⃣ Competence: The ability to apply and develop one's skills.

Conclusion

Job satisfaction depends not only on external rewards, but also on the quality of relationships, the meaning of work and opportunities for personal development . With targeted positive interventions, an organization can create an environment of well-being where employees feel satisfied, empowered and increased creativity.
